LEADERSHIP THAT WALKS WITH YOU

MY PRIORITIES

Raise Teacher Pay to
Strengthen Our Schools

Kansas is losing talented teachers to higher-paying districts and private-sector jobs. When schools can’t compete, vacancies grow, advanced courses disappear, and students lose opportunities. Competitive teacher pay isn’t about generosity, it’s about workforce stability and protecting academic quality. Stronger schools improve student outcomes, expand career pathways, and strengthen the local economy. If HD-43 wants to retain top educators and preserve opportunity for the next generation, investing in teacher pay is the most urgent and effective step.

Cut Taxes for Working Families

Working families are feeling squeezed by rising costs, yet tax policy too often prioritizes broad giveaways to the most wealthy that don’t meaningfully improve affordability. When relief isn’t targeted, middle class households continue to shoulder the burden. A responsible tax code should lower costs on everyday essentials and protect homeowners, while raising revenue from fair and sustainable sources. Smart reform can strengthen household stability, support small businesses, and keep communities affordable. We must ensure tax policy works for working families, not just those at the top.

Let Kansas Voters Put
Issues on the Ballot

Kansas voters have spoken clearly before, yet the legislature continues advancing politically driven ballot proposals while citizens lack the power to introduce measures ourselves. When lawmakers solely control the issues we are able to vote on but voters cannot, political representation suffers. A citizen-led ballot initiative process would give Kansans a direct voice on issues that affect our daily lives. We could finally attain the progress of our neighbors from healthcare access to wage standards. Expanding voter power strengthens democracy, increases trust, and ensures government responds to the people it serves.

ABOUT ME

I’m Kristen Schultz, and I’m running to represent the families of Gardner and Edgerton in the Kansas House. With over 20 years of experience as a local small business owner and a former member of the Gardner-Edgerton School Board, I understand the unique challenges our community faces.

My background combines the hands-on perspective of a childcare provider and educator with the analytical skills of a corporate law paralegal. I’ve spent my career advocating for fair governance, strong public schools, and a community where every family has the chance to thrive.

Why I’m Running:

  • Proven Leadership: Former School Board Member (2016–2022) and current leader in local civic organizations.

  • Deep Roots: A resident and business owner in Gardner for 23 years.

  • Commitment to You: I’m ready to take your voice to Topeka to fight for responsible budgeting, educator support, and the values that make our district strong.

I love this community, and I believe you deserve a representative who listens first and leads with integrity.
